Governors

Each Academy in the Priory Federation has its own Local Governing Body (LGB) and the individuals on this committee are known as Governors. The LGBs are advisory committees to the Priory Federation of Academies Trust – as established in the Trust’s Scheme of Delegated Authority.

The Governors of the LGB are responsible to the Trust for supporting the day-to-day running of the Academy. The LGB is not independent of the Trust. The Chair of the LGB is a Trust nominee and the Head of the Academy is an ex-officio member of the Governing Committee.

Each LGB has a small number of governing sub committees, including a Disciplinary and Appeals Committee (constituted as required).

Furthermore, each governor is linked to a member of the SLT both as ‘critical friend’ and as a Link Governor. Each Link (Governor/SLT) is responsible for one or more elements of the self-evaluation record (SEF). The governors challenge the SLT members to provide secure evidence for the SEF and support the SLT member in reaching the judgements for the SEF.

Training of the governing body in the development of self-evaluation is the focus of governor CPD on an annual basis.

MEET THE GOVERNORS

Simon Curtis - Chair of Governors

My name is Simon Curtis and I am privileged to be the Chair of Governors at Heighington and Millfield Primary Academy.

I have worked in a variety of school settings in Manchester, Bolton and now in Lincolnshire. I have led and managed a number of departments and faculties, and have over 15 years leadership experience within Safeguarding, Teaching and Learning, Behaviour and Curriculum.  I am in my fourth year as Headteacher at John Spendluffe Technology College, Alford.

My specific passions within education are development of teaching and learning strategies; specifically, behaviour for learning, restorative and reflective practice, creativity, coaching and mentoring. My subject specialisms are Art, Photography, Media Studies and Graphic Design. Prior to teaching I worked within the graphic design industry for a number of years.

I hope my skills and experience will help me support Heighington and Millfield Primary Academy to continue moving forward through my role as a governor.

Donna Woosey - Headteacher - Ex Officio Governor

Jo Garraghty - Staff Governor

I have worked in the Reception class at Millfield for over 10 years. I have worked a total of 25 years in various school settings. I studied Early Years in Manchester.  I am also Elklan trained in speech and language.

I live in the village with my husband and two teenage daughters.  Both my daughters attended Millfield.

Helen Newton - Community Governor

I live in Heighington with my husband and 2 daughters, who both attend the school. We moved here because of the lovely community feel and the excellent school, and have not been disappointed. Becoming a Governor allows me to give something back to our wonderful school and to become more involved in our community.

Having worked in education for over 20 years, I have experience of most education sectors, including Primary and Secondary Schools, Further and Higher Education, as well as within the private sector. I currently teach Languages in a local Secondary School, and am passionate about language learning being accessible to all.
I bring to the governing body an understanding of the education system, a lifelong love of learning and also skills from running an educational business

Lorna Spreckley - Community Governor

My family and I have lived in Heighington for nearly 6 years and absolutely adore the village. Our son attends Millfield and loves the school. I am hoping that by being a Governor I can give back to our local.

I’ve a variety of skills I’ve gained over the years, which I hope will help support our Governing Body and in turn help the school. I have many years experience of working in education, both in Primary and Early Years, as well as HR experience both internally within a company and supporting education settings.
